I usually spend most, if not all of my working day in front of my desktop iMac and only use the MacBook Pro in the evenings, on weekends, or if I'm away from home. I don't usually spend eight hours per day on my laptop. If my experience sounds familiar, you're going to want to read this review. Someone that plays Dungeons and Dragons remotely using Roll20 and Discord. Someone that stares at their screen for eight or more hours every day of the week. Someone that sits on the couch with their Mac on their lap for hours at a time. Someone that just uses their Mac everyday, for everyday work, for everyday tasks. Not someone that maxes out the processor or spends hours compressing video. Instead, I'm reviewing the MacBook Pro from the perspective of an everyday user. Rene Ritchie also has a very detailed video that covers MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, and Mac mini M1 chip benchmarks that I highly recommend. He gets deep into the weeds with all the details on benchmarks and performance. I'm not going to talk about benchmarks and PC comparisons in this review.
It should be a well-thought-out decision because you want it to last you a very long time. After all, your computer should last you half-a-decade, at a minimum. I suspect there is some VPN/tunneling situation deep in the Mac network cache that needs to be reset but I have no idea where even to look.When it comes to computers, I'm much more conservative when making recommendations to others. Also iPhone opens Slack correctly on the same networks. The issue is the same on home wireless, cafe wireless and iPhone hotspot.
Pinging in the command line also doesn't work, also traceroute and mtr can't establish a connection all the way to the server. It waits for a long time and then times out with the message of couldn't establish a secure connection to. The desktop app can't load the workplace and what's more doesn't open in any browsers. The charge ran out and the laptop shut down and after I came back I can't use Slack anymore.
There was probably some combination of VPN services running (I use pritunl and NordVPN running at the same time). I went to the hospital and left my laptop sleeping without power cord.
